Discovering Your Niche in Photography

Yes, 2013 is coming fast and furious, with big bets and predictions heading towards the full-frame arena. And like it or not, common sense will tell you that, as technology further matures and goes for economy of scale, cost will continue to plummet for more to afford what was once unaffordable.

Every camera ought to get cheaper like any other electronic commodity and hence should not be a major concern for you in improving your like to taking more pictures. However, as you clock your first 10K actuations (80% of you won’t), followed by your first 100K, you should like, as Scott Kelby suggests, initiate a simple flow of obtaining feedback from those whom matters to you most in this field. Some call this pool of experts image critics. They will probably be someone whose opinion is valued by you in the first place.

From a generalist, you’d soon discover that you shoot better in certain genres and feel more motivated to excel in that area compared to the others. But of course, if you enjoy being a generalist, there’s no compulsion to specialise anytime soon. The possibility to zoom in should exist, but never at anytime should you let that inhibit your fun and enjoyment in taking pictures in the first place.

Niche moves you into the next stage of becoming a professional photographer. And by professional, I mean one who actually get recommended and paid for the service rendered. In a nutshell, nobody pays a nobody. So, if you are looking to get paid or simply appraised for your passion in photography, you would need to be a somebody in some areas.

Nikon to announce two new mirrorless camera during the 2013 CES show in January: J3 and S1?

Nikon 1 J3

The Nikon 1 J3 will have a 14MP sensor with slightly improved specs. Don’t expect anything major in terms of new functionality or design. FYI: the J2 was announced just 4 months ago (August 9, 2012).

Nikon 1 S1

I am still not sure, but it seems that this will be the new entry level Nikon mirrorless camera and it will have a 10MP sensor. Very cheap and very basic. The S1 should be placed bellow the J product line. The new Nikon 1 camera lines will be S – J – V
