Room for Nikon Coolpix A?

The truckload dumping is finally complete as Nikon completes her first quarterly announcements of their new products. The Nikon D7100 confirms the reality that Nikon Corporation has mastered the workaround for the need of a low pass filter – something I applaud as a thumbs up.

But the actual bombshell actually comes from Nikon’s first foray into a premium DX compact camera, raising quite a few eye brows for her fit between a DX DSLR and the Nikon 1. Product fit aside, price fit seems totally out of the window too, with it being priced beyond the respectable Nikon D5200, which triggers another alert.

Can her image quality be better than the Nikon D3200? I doubt (with the use of pro DX lens). Can she be coined as a system? Obviously not due to her fixed prime lens. Will her AF performance best the Nikon 1 J3 (which has similar form factor)? Very doubtful. Is she more pocketable than the J3? A tad easier (without the use of any accessories).

So why was she spawned from the Nikon lab in the first place? From the top of my head, there’s only that many reasons I can share. Nikon wants to sell this to the richer, crop-often (in post processing that is), image-quality-obsessed (who jeers at the superb image quality of the Nikon 1), hassle-free (light weight), occasional photographer.

If all the above fits you, then I guess this camera is built for you.
